Learn to Live like a CavemanWhen I first heard that some runners were following a diet called the Paleo Diet, my initial reaction was, "Oh no, not another fad diet!" However, as my curiosity peaked and I read more about the diet and the primal lifestyle, it started to make a lot of sense. The diet is based on the premise that our bodies have not adapted to many of the foods that we have available to us today and it is causing us many health problems. The human body has had no significant change in the last 2.5 million years, but our diet has changed drastically. Could this be the cause of many of the modern day diseases and allergies? Living a primal lifestyle involves basically consuming a diet of lean meat, eggs, fish, non-starchy vegetables, fruits and nuts as outlined in the Paleo Diet, going barefoot or wearing minimalist shoes, and exercising in a more natural way--not just for the purpose of burning calories. Choosing a primal lifestyle is becoming very popular these days as proponents profess the many benefits they have experienced. They say eating and living life like a cave dweller will enhance your immune system, burn stored body fat, strengthen muscles and bones, prevent disease, promote healing, reduce the effects of aging, eliminate cravings and improve your fitness performance level without a great deal of effort.
